Police Officer Struck by Stolen Vehicle, Salter/Dufferin May 8,10 - ARREST

OFFICER STRUCK BY STOLEN VEHICLE- ARREST    C10-97498
On May 9th, 2010 the Winnipeg Police Service released information regarding an officer who was struck by a stolen vehicle during a road safety speed enforcement campaign. 
On May 8th, 2010, at approximately 10:10 a.m., Officers were assigned to traffic enforcement in the area of Salter Street and Dufferin Avenue when a northbound vehicle was observed travelling at a high rate of speed.
It was at this time the officer signalled the suspect vehicle to stop. Ultimately, the driver of the suspect vehicle failed to stop as directed and subsequently accelerated the vehicle towards the officer, striking him and fleeing the area.
The officer struck by the vehicle was treated and released from hospital for non-life-threatening injuries to his upper and lower body.
On May 29th, 2010 at approximately 2:00 p.m., the accused male was arrested in Selkirk, Manitoba by members of the Royal Candadian Mounted Police and was subsequently turned over to members of the Winnipeg Police Service’s Stolen Auto Unit.
Dale Adam CHOPEK, 38 years, of Selkirk, Manitoba, has been charged with the following offences:
- Assault with a Weapon
- Assault Peace Officer
- Theft Under $5000
- Drive Disquailified
- Driver- Fail to leave particulars
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
CHOPEK has been detained in the Winnipeg Remand Centre.
