Driftwood Piles along Red River - Fisheries & Oceans Canada

As to whether  there are plans to clean up some of the numerous driftwood  piles  (some piles consisting of dozens of trees) along the bank of the Red River between Riverfront drive and St. John's Park  here's the response from Chris Hurley of Cnr. Lazarenko's office.

Apparently, Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) has asked/instructed the City of Winnipeg that driftwood accumulations along the riverbank are deemed riparian habitat and are not be removed.

  1. Riparian Zones are good for the security of the riverbank. They may be ugly, but they serve an important purpose...like not letting erosion take your back yard/house into the water.
