As to whether  there are plans to clean up some of the numerous driftwood  piles  (some piles consisting of dozens of trees) along the bank of the Red River between Riverfront drive and St. John's Park  here's the response from Chris Hurley of Cnr. Lazarenko's office.
Apparently, Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) has asked/instructed the City of Winnipeg

Riparian Zones are good for the security of the riverbank. They may be ugly, but they serve an important purpose...like not letting erosion take your back yard/house into the water.
